Wine tasting & lunch in the Cotswolds

I was looking for somewhere in the Cotswolds to meet up with a friend that would enable us to visit a vineyard and was attracted to Woodchester Valley Vineyard which offered a wide range of tours and tastings.   We decided to base ourselves in Nailsworth meaning we were walking distance to the vineyard, hiring a centrally located cottage through AirB&B.

When we arrived in the quaint Cotswolds town we came across The Olive Tree Café where much to our delight they served Woodchester Valley’s Cotswolds Classic sparkling wine by the glass – a perfect start to our mini break! The following day we headed off for our pre-booked vineyard tour & tasting with grazing lunch – a delicious locally sourced hamper of goodies. We enjoyed this in their modern, airy tasting room and although it came with a glass of wine, we decided to add a wine flight to enable us to try more of their fantastic range of sparkling wines.

The tour of the vineyard and onsite winery was extremely informative, we then returned to the tasting room to sample four still wines and one sparkling. It was a delightful afternoon in a stunning hilltop location. Fortunately for us they have a cellar door shop back on the main road where we could pick up our purchases the following day.

Back in Nailsworth we headed out to dinner at Williams Seafood restaurant where we enjoyed a delicious meal washed down with Woodchester Valley Bacchus. It was great to see the local eateries supporting their local vineyard.

Fantastic choice of wines, delicious food and enthusiastic, knowledgeable staff. They’ve got a great formula for tours and tastings.
